BRIGIL Pursues its Partnership with Ski Heritage East

February 08, 2020

BRIGIL is proud to pursue its collaboration with Ski Heritage East in Orleans, by investing $10,000 in this organization whose mission it is to develop, maintain and promote a multi-use winter recreation trail in East Ottawa.

Brigil officialized this partnership, Saturday morning, in the presence of Orléans MP Marie-France Lalonde, city councillors Matthew Luloff (Orléans) and Laura Dudas (Innes), along with NCC land manager Mike Muir and Ski Heritage East, Ian Gadbois.

In 2018, BRIGIL contributed an initial $10,000 to help establish the organization and to enhance the signage along the trail that borders the Ottawa River for 13 km, from Shefford Rd to Trim Rd. The company joins forces with the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission (NCC) to support Ski Heritage East, an organization led by volunteers.

Many of them and numerous skiers were present at a celebration on Saturday morning, at the intersection of Jeanne d’Arc Blvd. and Trim Rd., to underline the alliance.

Ski Heritage East president, Ian Gadbois, “This financial assistance will allow us to purchase new grooming equipment to enhance the experience of the many winter trail users”. He went on to gratefully acknowledge the generous assistance of the City and the NCC, as well as support from local businesses and individuals.

Orléans Ward Councillor Matthew Luloff is encouraged by the community partnerships that have made this trail possible: “The Ski Heritage East Trail provides an incredible opportunity for our community to enjoy the outdoors during the frigid winter months. I am proud to have worked with Ski Heritage East, the Winter Trails Alliance, BRIGIL, the NCC, and of course our wonderful City staff to ensure proper funding for our incredible trail along the Ottawa River. Thank you to all of our extraordinary partners for working with us on this. Now let’s get out there and enjoy what this trail has to offer!”

BRIGIL President Gilles Desjardins highlighted the efforts displayed by Ski Heritage East to offer quality gliding conditions to skiers. “Their regular maintenance work allows families to enjoy nature and winter in optimal surroundings. It’s a true delight for us to encourage the practice of physical exercise in a part of Ottawa where we’re also very active!” underlines Gilles Desjardins.
