Ottawa, June 9, 2025 – The University of Ottawa is proud to confer nine honorary doctorates during its spring convocation ceremonies, held at the Rogers Centre. Among this year’s recipients, Gilles Desjardins, founder and president of Brigil, was particularly honored for his exceptional career and commitment to the community. Gilles Desjardins is the only recipient of an honorary doctorate from the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, highlighting his significant impact in the field of management and entrepreneurship.
Gilles Desjardins emotionally shared his inspiring story during the ceremony, highlighting his ability to turn challenges into opportunities. “It is here in this region that I wanted to build, and it is here that I chose to give back,” he stated, emphasizing his attachment to the Ottawa region and his desire to contribute to a stronger, more humane society.
His journey, beginning in the family business of auto parts and towing, evolved into the creation of a successful company that has built over 14,000 homes and supported more than 400 organizations in various fields such as education, health, and culture. “Because building is not just about construction; it is also about contributing to a stronger, more humane society,” he added, urging graduates to remain true to their values and never give up.
