Steven MacKinnon, Federal Minister of Employment, Labour and Workforce Development, made a major announcement on March 7th, with the presence of Dan Goldberg, President and CEO of Telesat, Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, Mayor of Gatineau, and several executives from Telesat, as well as elected officials from the Outaouais region.
Telesat, a Canadian company operating in the field of telecommunication satellites, is installing its low-Earth orbit satellite network, formerly known as Lightspeed, in the building that previously housed Brigil’s head office at 98 Lois Street in Gatineau.

As part of the project, key operations such as network control centers, satellite management, and cybersecurity operations will be carried out from this building.
Telesat also expects to create 300 highly qualified jobs, allocate $1.6 million in scholarships, and offer 200 work-study internships for postsecondary students.
“Brigil is proud that Telesat has chosen Gatineau to establish its telecommunication satellite base of operations,” said Maxime Tremblay, Corporate Affairs Advisor at Brigil.
Investment and Employment
The Telesat project, named Lightspeed, represents an investment of $6.5 billion. The company plans to inject no less than $4.4 billion into the Canadian economy over the next 15 years.
