BRIGIL supports heritage citation

of the quartier du Musée

GATINEAU, May 17th 2018 – BRIGIL president Gilles Desjardins supports the idea of a heritage citation of the quartier du Musée, because he considers it would be suitable with a project involving emblematic buildings overhanging the river.

"It's time to work together to preserve our heritage, while expanding our city. I have always looked for solutions so that people would be proud of Gatineau. I therefore reach to the mayor and city councillors, hoping that a heritage citation would be unanimous", declared Mr. Desjardins Tuesday, in a press conference.

Brigil's founder has been clear: he will support a heritage citation if it is innovative, modern and flexible.

Urban planning, urban design and landscape architecture director and heritage specialist at Stantec, Steve Potvin, said that heritage citations respecting those criteria are possible in Quebec.

"Many examples of modern and emblematic buildings built in heritage architectural ensembles, such as the quartier du Musée, exists in Old-Montreal, Toronto or Ottawa. We believe Brigil's project could be a protection lever for the quartier du Musée et we wish to prove it in the next few weeks by creating a constructive dialog", added Mr. Potvin.

Mr. Potvin is part of a team of urban design and social acceptability experts put in place by Brigil. The objective is to give real information about this unique and unifying project that might offer to Gatineau residents and visitors a superb observation spot on Gatineau's main attractions and beauty.
